Simple Days

I have far too many clothes!
I remember when I was a child, my mother had coat hangers full of clothes hanging on the handles of the wardrobe, because there was no space inside to accomodate them.
My dad use to chide her about this saying..
" it's a sin to have so much you can't use, when poor people need it!"
It's come to my attention that I seem to have taken after my mum.
I have so much that it causes stress when I need to put an outfit together to leave the house!
Too many choices =  too much stress.
It's not that I spend a fortune either.
In fact most of my wardrobe is second-hand!
Thrift shops are my big temptation when it comes to clothes.
I've justified my purchases there because it's cheap - but when I add up my clothes and what it has cost, I see that I'm still spending way too much.
This is an area I need to work on and bring some simplicity to.
Culling the things I rarely wear or that don't suit me is just the start...
staying away from temptation is going to be important to me too!
At least until I've got a better handle on "stuff" and living with less of it!
I might yet become a 3rd order Franciscan and wear a simple brown habit..or plain cape- dresses like the Amish, Mennonites and Plain catholics!
Who knows .. it might do me some good :-D

  1. can kindred spirits be so close and yet so far? Have you been inside my heart again Trish? :)

Culling everything that is inhibiting your walk on this earth - not an easy endeavor. But wearing simplicity is such a joy!

I miss that Trish...oh, how I miss it.

  2. Hello Trish,
This is something I've been working on little by little. I do a little paring down of my wardrobe every cool or warm season, only keeping what fits me, and what I really like to wear. I read somewhere that we only wear about 20% of our clothing, 80% of the time. I'm sure that must be true for some of us!
Blessings to you on your path to simplicity friend,
    Kim

  3. I really thinned out my wardrobe earlier this year. I got rid of 2/3 of my clothing as I wasn't working any longer and a lot of it was a little dated. SO easy to go in and find what I need and I don't miss the stuff the slightest.
